Mafia is actually the greatest thing.

Also to get this thread somewhat back on track, when do people reckon is the best time of year to go on exchange? Specifically to the UK? Thinking Unimelb Semester 2 (UK Semester/Trimester 1) at the moment, because it'll be wintry (I love winter) and the start of the academic year there, which for some arbitrary reason in my head seems like a positive.

Yeah I have spoken to a few UK students currently studying at UoM and they've said that if possible, study in Sem 1 in the UK since everyone's new to the uni, you have the orientation week, it's all happening etc.

Yeah this was my logic too. Though I actually found semester 2 this year far more enjoyable. Might just be because as a first year I was more settled having had that first semester's experience.

Hey,
For anyone who has heard of the guaranteed pathway for graduate entry into medicine with a 99+ atar and 75% average in biomed: is maintaining a 75% average the minimum to guarantee an interview or does one need to get higher grades to be competitive?
Cheers

Hey 75% avg gets you the guaranteed interview without the GAMSAT etc. However, bear in mind this is a FULL FEE place not a CSP. That means you'll be paying ~$60+K per year of MD you do. From the calculations that equations to around $250K from your MD via a full fee place.

How could you hate Leonetta Leopardi?  :'(
SugarMinted, it's not really, the work is manageable and assessment is reasonable :)

She is a terrible teacher. I taught myself the cases and adjective endings in a week during the holidays and bought an exercise book that isnt entirely in german and started skype language exchnage for german too.

I learned more drunk after long nights when I returned to Skype Germans than I did in her entire subject with nothing but a few half-hour days.

Plus they are just ridiculously tight.

I just had really high expectations after Russian because the lecturer is a fucking gun. Goes for beers with us after exams etc.

I did no work whatsoever for german 1 and still passed because literally half the exam was understanding the difference been nominative and accusative.

Joke of a subject imo.

And wow just realised I am writing this in Vienna lol

I don't know, I thought she was lovely and very helpful. I also didn't find the fact that the textbook was 100% Deutsch very perturbing since you use it for the grammar patterns and in the instance where there was a non-vocabulary word you could just use your dictionary. I liked Leonetta but definitely didn't find the course structure amazing (that goes more for German 2 where 35% of the exam was culture we'd barely done anything on in class and was entirely outside the scope of our regular grammar and vocabulary) but I think the expectation that most of your work had to be outside class was made clear from Day 1. Different people like different things, I guess.

*sigh* 30 minutes until results are locked in.  Lost hope of my Calculus 2 mark changing.  I can't believe that subject didn't get scaled.  Or that I managed to get 70% on an exam where I was getting 90% in the practise exams.  Grrrrrr.

My final grade for one of my subjects is 82, and I managed to score H1s for all assessments. I know for a fact though that my tutor gave me 84/100 for the first assessment worth 20%. The next two assessments were worth 30% and 50% respectively and I'm pretty sure the essays I wrote for these two were significantly better than the first essay I wrote (and the third was better than the second). My tutor said exactly that in her comments too.

Would it be worth messaging my tutor/the subject coordinator to clarify/make sure there wasn't a typo? I don't want to offend them or sound like a sore loser though haha. Just a bit confused, and a little bit put out. It might just be an Arts thing I guess, but it'd be nice to have more information as to how to get scores of 85 and above in the future! We don't get our numerical mark for assessments, which is a bit frustrating.

Charmanderp, I feel exactly the same ay about one of the subjects I took. Just give them a message and ask where you went wrong in the other assessments and ask them to clarify etc. Just let them know that you felt it was of a higher standard of previous assessments and they should reply :)

PS. apparently Arts subjects are sorted onto a bell curve? So they may have scaled it depending on how everyone else did.

Yeh I'm suprised Calc 2 didn't get scaled, but I guess that's why most people have scores in the 50-60's range. It was a pretty hard exam though compared to other years, I was in the same situation as you. Don't fuss about it too much.

Thanks for that, I'll send them an email to clarify (: Some Arts subjects are sorted onto a bell curve but not all of them AFAIK. It'd be nice if they told us which ones were and which ones weren't!

Yeh just pop them a message! It's pretty hard to write one in a really friendly way without it sounding too cocky/hostile. But regardless, take the feedback and try implement it for next time :)
