Hey guys, any advice of how much 'getting ahead' i should be doing in the summer holidays? I'm doing spesh, physics, accounting and mainstream eng., so i was thinking of finishing as much as i can, of the spesh & physics course and read my selected text for english. Should I do any more work in the hols.?
At an absolute minimum read your English texts at least twice. Other than holiday HW, anything else is up to you. I covered AoS 1 in Psych and did a bit of Further (basically learnt what a boxplot was etc 'cause I hadn't done math in a few years)
✌️just do what makes you happy ✌️

I definitely want to get a head start too, but I think it's really worthwhile to have a solid period of relaxing so we'll be all good to go when school starts, plus have a less chance of burning out!
I'm definitely going to read the English texts and probably make some notes analysing the themes and characters and all that. But I don't think I'll write practice essays yet, but I will read high-range ones. I deserve a break first :P
For the maths-like subjects I'd do the first few chapters of questions, but only read through the rest.
The concern is sometimes when you finish a lot of work beforehand, you neglect the subject during the year and it ends up doing more harm than good and albeit I say I won't do that, it ends up happening sometimes (particularly for my unit 2s, damn)
But yeah usually I make notes on the first few "chapters" or whatever for my other subjects, and if there are any texts I definitely read them all and make notes on them!

Just a suggestion ^^

Wouldn't you just love it, if you were in year 11, and got a 50 for a 3/4 subject? *dreamy sigh*

Ugh, I've just spent ten hours doing homework and I still have a lot more to do but I just have to stop. Damn Specialist headstart work. =_=

YES.. :')
I wanted it for Psychology but I think I lost too many marks on the mid-years for a 50 :(
And methods, won't even happen, I'd be surprised to get a 40 raw tbh.

We have the same 3/4s :D

Haha - we DO have the same 3/4s lol! That's pretty awesome  ;)
Don't worry about the mid-year for psych, did you make up for lost marks in the end-of-year do you think? Hmm - I'm beginning to second guess my extended response now, after seeing the 2012 VCAA marking guide for it somewhere on AN ~ we were supposed to define terms like phobia/systematic desensitisation  :-\

Eeep I still have to do my exam before I even start thinking about study scores!

Haha - okay sure! I'm sure you'll do really well for Revolutions  :) That's right - don't think about the study score now, just focus on the exam  :D

TEN HOURS!!! ON HEADSTART WORK?? Stick - seriously. You just gave your further exam ~ ease up a bit  :P Our school hasn't even started the headstart program for spesh yet. But anyway, how're you finding it?

With English I think reading the texts is essential but I wouldn't go about trying to write practice essays or read 'high-level' ones unless you have a tutor. It's more than likely that you'll confuse yourself as to exactly what is so good about a high level essay, speaking from experience. There's quite a jump in the approach to the three essay styles in year 12.

Well I was meant to start the headstart work for Specialist Maths during the Term 3 holidays (it's a bit different to how headstart works for everything else - I haven't even started my Unit 2 exams, let alone start headstart for anything else), but I neglected it because of Further. :P Now I have to cram in the work in just over a week (my teacher would probably tell me off for poor time management if I didn't get it done). It's a lot of work, but it's not too difficult at the moment. We're working through the first four chapters of the Essentials textbook (they cover assumed knowledge, vectors, circular functions and complex numbers) but we're skipping through some of the exercises. :)

Complex numbers hmmm. So far in methods it's only been real numbers  :( Oh well, spesh is supposed to be fun for maths lovers haha  :)

Yeah, when I started headstart for Further last year I was really nervous, so I kept telling myself that the exam was 11 months away... it flew so quickly! :P

Oh god. I don't think I defined them either. (Where do you that in a report anyway...? I've already forgotten everything about psychology).
Yeah I think I did make it up... Hopefully LOL - but I'd have to pretty much have to almost ace the unit 4 for a 50 so not depending on that. At all. LOL. But if I at least match my score, I shouldn't get anything under 45 so I'd still be proud of that as it was my initial goal. ^_^

It was my fault for not preparing for another research methods extended response - people were insistent that it was going to be on theory, so damn my naivety. :( I'll know better to not trust trends at least! Tricky VCAA haha
