I was kidding myself when I thought I could spend today reading, though.

Yeah, it's not even worth it at the moment.
2012-2014. BSc: Neuroscience. University of Melbourne.
2015-2018. Doctor of Optometry. University of Melbourne.

Unlikely to respond to any PMs these days.

-what texts are you studying?

I feel like I've answered this question 1000 times now. XD Yes, I'm taking English, my texts are Interpreter of Maladies, On the Waterfront, Spies and The Lot: In Words and my context is Whose Reality?. And of course, I intend on using AN to get as much feedback as possible. :)

There's a thread in the English section :)
Regarding q3, I think that though many are keen, not everyone knows about the work submission thread and the stickied threads on the English board. Check it out guys!

I'm studying Cat's Eye in Unit 4, apparently this is one of the less commonly chosen texts?

Did you post in it?
Hmm. What if there was a running thread like the maths threads where people poste essays and someone gave them feedback, so it was prevalent in the 'unread posts' bit?

Here's the thread I was talking about (it wasn't regarding feedback, more a discussion of assigned texts: Class of 2013: What English texts and Contexts are you studying?).
That's a great idea regarding an ongoing thread (similar to TT's maths one), because people would be less shy about posting small excerpts of pieces. I guess now, a few people are a bit hesitant about creating an entire thread for maybe a paragraph of work (or even more) - plus the presence of notifications is a good thing!

I'll let you do the honours of starting and naming the thread!

It's also worth noting that some people will be too afraid to post in those boards. Plainly because they get intimidated by the level of work that others submit and they are afraid that their work would look "stupid" among the other pieces.

But I've always said that everyone has to start somewhere to improve. Better still, even if your work was rubbish. Instead of going along with it for the rest of the year (ultimately your exam), you post it here and then you'll know exactly what to do in order to improve your level of work/writing and as such you'll be a crucial few steps ahead than if you'd just passed such a resource.

In short. You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow this opportunity comes once in a lifetime yo

Thanks for that thread David. I'm planning on reading the text list but will read more than once those texts that are more frequent on AN.
I'll start a running thread in the submission board nearing the end of January when people could be writing.

Just a bit of a sidenote: don't post practice work up until you've received it back from the teacher - you'd hate to be accused of plagiarism in Year 12.

Just show the teacher it is your account (ie. log into it in front of them)? I wouldn't worry too much tbh.

Why would you plagiarise a practice essay anyway?

Well, just say you hand in a practice piece to your teacher and he/she wants to test it for plagiarism by chucking a few sentences into Google. If you've posted it up here, it will show up and it would be a fair assumption that you may have copied the essay from the site (even though you posted it up yourself). So just be careful and post at your own risk.

I hope I haven't discouraged you from submitting work though. After I've gotten pieces back from my teacher I've been more than comfortable to post up my essays. :)
