I haven't actually started writing the piece itself. But we have been given the SAC task sheet and brainstormed possible ideas in class. Our text is Dark Roots by Cate Kennedy. Pretty sure I know what my idea is, so I've just started by re reading it and taking detailed notes on the language and style of Kennedy within the short story I'm using and things about the character because I'm adding to the story. I figure doing this will help me really get into the essence of how Kennedy writes and the mindset of the character. What about you?

Cate Kennedy!! So much love. She's an amazing writer.

I'm also writing drawing from one of Kennedy's short stories. Our text is the Collection of best Australian short stories and I've chosen a story called 'Cold Snap'.
Planned my piece this week and spent most of 1st week back writing - I'm about half way through my piece - turning out well hopefully.

No way haha - the chances of that happening. Gotta read your story when you're done. Swap when finished for critique?

I love the story feel Billy's struggle so much. Really fun to write in that really approachable voice that he has and his ridiculous comparisons to nature that he does throughout.

Sure thing :) are you extending the story, adding to a bit of it or writing a whole new piece? Hahaha, part of the reason why I chose it. I also love how the story is written in an almost skaz like way with minimal punctuation. Writing in that way is something you don't get to do all that often because of it being so informal!

I'm writing a completely new narrative drawing from a similar plot structure - conflict at start, build then resolution, as well as using a lot of the same language features and of course the same feel of the narrative voice.

Hey guys quick question - what's the point of having VTAC preferences due in August when we have the opportunity to change it once we receive our results?

Why is this?

Generally those types of courses require stuff like interviews or UMAT meaning by the final change of preferences period it is already to late to be considered.

My first week was marred by people recounting the events I partook in while drunk on Saturday night, safe to say it wasn't pretty.

Oh my gosh I definitely know this feeling.

My printer died right at the start of this term. PRINTER. YOU PICKED THE WORST TERM TO DIE IN. D;
2013 : Philosophy (31) | VCE VET Hospitality (Kitchen Operations) (31)

2014 : Food Tech (40) | Accounting (35) | Art (39) | Visual Communication Design (40) | English (38) [hopefully!!]

Just to confirm about VTAC preferences....

1) So, when one receives an offer say in Round 1, this can be from any course ranked 1 - 12? When one acquires this offer, is their a delay between course rank 1 and course rank 12 if this is hypothetically situated in round 1? Also, with the offers that are denied and/or approved are these indicated also?

2) If I do not reach the 25+ study score for Maths but acquire a higher ATAR than required, does this just go down in ranking depending on what you have been approved for via ranking preferences? E.g. some business courses I have like from 3-6 and Arts which doesn't require a Maths study score in Year 12, which is 7th? Is their a delay? E.g. I don't want that delay, it would make me feel like I have badly failed Year 12... I will adjust my preferences accordingly if this is the case.

3) Do I have to submit my VTAC preferences by myself or in consultation with my careers mentor?

4) I also have to submit a SEAS application. Does this have to go in-conjunction with the VTAC preferences?

So nervous, I want to get this organised and out of the way as quickly as possible so I can concentrate on my study commitments ASAP. I have in excess of 25 courses, I just need to organise them from about 1 - 12 in ranking order.

Would anyone be willing to critique my preferences? Unfortunately I did not bring my careers folder with me, due to my excessively heavy bag! As they stand at the moment ('off the top of my head':

1) Arts - Melb. Uni

2) Professional Communication - RMIT

3) Journalism/Business - Monash

4) Arts/Secondary Education (Honours) - Monash

5) Arts/Marketing - Monash

6) Arts/Business - Monash

Does anyone know the difference between Business and Marketing?

7) Arts - Monash

8)) Communication/Business - Swinburne

9) Arts/Commerce - Deakin

10) Professional and Creative Writing - Deakin

11 Arts - Deakin

12) Creative Writing - RMIT
