^ Looks typical for a biomed student.
Ok we need to have JAFFY FAQ. These questions have been asked before!
-Does it matter whether we attend tutorials or lectures first during a given week? No, it doesn't matter because you normally cover content you learnt in the previous week of lectures.
-How does my biomed/science timetable look?If you have classes everyday or 8/9am-5/6pm or 20+ contact hours then yes, it's typical for a biomed/science student. But it does vary depending on the units you take.
- OMG. I scheduled back to back classes, I'm going to be late D: Firstly, no one really cares if you're late. If you are late then excuse yourself and you should be fine - it'll only be a problem if you're over like 15-20mins late. And classes generally begin at xy:05 and end at wz:55 so you'll have 10 minutes leeway to get to classes! But sometimes classes do go overtime but still it shouldn't matter.
- Can you change subjects?Yes, provided you withdraw from it before the census date. Otherwise, you'll incur a 'Withdrawal' and I believe you have to pay the fee.
- Is it better to have classes in the morning or afternoon? Beginning or end of week? Are you a morning person? Afternoon person? How long does it take for you to travel to uni? Do you have other commitments? Point, it doesn't matter do whatever suits you. But normally, I like to have tutes/pracs/labs at the start of the week so you review work you've done in the previous week while it's still semi fresh.
- Are all lectures recorded? Most are. Some lecturers won't, but some will give you an audio file others will allow screen capture which has the audio and the slides/annotations that the lecturer does. But it won't contain any visual of what the lecturer writes on whiteboards or anything like that.
- Lectures arnt compulsory right? So should I put them in the afternoon after tutorials and workshops in case I want to go home early and study...is this a good idea?Hell no! Some subjects will have compulsory tutorials participation so you have to turn up to 80% of them or whatever. You can leave early if you want, no one is stopping you. But I'd recommend you show up to lectures unless you pay no attention at all. I've found that I usually go on autopilot mode when I watch lectures online. Watching lectures online has benefits and disadvantages, but I still think it's best to go to the lectures.
- Subjects seem to have a lecture hurdle requirement of 70-85% from what I can see in the handbook, but if the lectures are Lectopia-ed I THINK you can watch them online and meet the requirement? D:AFAIK, there isn't a lecture hurdle requirement. You may have read it wrong, it's usually for tutorials/labs/pracs.
With timetabling, I really think it's something you need to do for yourself and test it out to see what works for you. Everyone is in a different situation and we have different commitments so just do what works for you! After this semester you might change they way you schedule your classes because you found it too exhausting or whatnot. Also, just because you enrol in a certain lecture stream it doesn't mean you have to stay in there! If after the census date you want to change streams just look up the times on the handbook or say you want to go back to a lecture to hear it explained differently, just rock up! There aren't security guards out the front ticking off names, no one cares. Anyway, 2-3 weeks in the number of students in lectures drops quite a bit! haha
Hopefully that covers most of the JAFFY questions
