Well I'm sticking to the book, more to the fact that it has more information :)
..
Hey Smiley.. in regards to the programs addressing key health issues in developing countries, would it be appropriate if i just replace AusAID with DFAT ?

For example if a program such as 'Developing well and pumps in Niger' was funded by AusAID, could I say it was funded by DFAT instead? or would you recommend me to use the site and find some programs and blab some bull crap on it?

Yeah my book has AusAid in it ..

Thankyouu

Yeah that's what I was thinking :)

One more thing umm, can you please show me format I could use to explain how _________ (program or anything) promotes sustainable human development?

Would I talk about how aid for example increases an individuals opportunity to lead productive, creative lives according to their needs then somehow say that furthermore it allows it to be sustainable

Example
Education increases the opportunities for individuals to access a higher paying employment which in return increases their socio-economical status. As their income increases, they have more opportunities to lead productive, creative lives according to their needs as they are able to access general services such as healthcare. Moreover education increases the chances for the individual's children to be educated therefore it is sustainable.

hows that?

thanks in advanced

It's pretty good! Make sure if you are talking about a specific program that you take a specific part of the project within the program to make the connection really clear  :)

I'd also add in that access to higher paid employment is economic sustainability and explicitly mention that "lead productive, creative lives" is human development just to make it really clear  :)

Hi Rod,

Here are some exam tips.

Make sure you know all the definitions provided by VCAA plus others that you have learnt for sacs.

Then go over your sacs and other questions that you struggled with over the year.

Practice exams are important but what I would do is do couple and see how you go time wise. Then just use this to work on practice questions. If you are struggling with time then practice then spend time on writing answers quickly and succinctly. If you are losing marks on because you don't know what the question is asking then go back to the book and read through the key skills for this section then go back to practice.

In terms of how many practice exams, to do I think all the VCAA plus 15-20 is good. They are also really long though so by the end I was just learning definitions and then writing down answers to difficult questions.

Doing heaps of practice exams is fine, but a better use of your time would be spent learning definitions and then reading through various sources of questions and doing the questions that you find challenging.

It is also important to go over questions that ask you to explain how things affect health, health status, global health, human development  and sustainable human development.

Studying the way you learn best will also work best, so if you like cue cards, posters teaching others then use this. Acronyms such as Ben Cousins Should Do Rehab (for the ottawa charter) are also really good, just make sure that you know exactly what they mean.

I love using cue cards and posters but everyone is different.

If you have any other specific questions let me know :)

Thanks so much Smiley! With just 63 days to go for the exam, I just wanted to say I really appreciate how you've helped us 2014ers, you've pretty much helped us throughout the whole year, answering your questions, giving us vital tips and guiding us through. Wish us luck! :) And thank you

- Yeah really curious to know what the ben cousins acronym is haha.. I use the numbers of the collingwood to remember my statistics. For example, for my mdg sac I needed to remember at least on key statistic for each area;
for the second goal a key stat is that from 2000 to 2011 number of children out of school decreased from 102 mil to 57 mill. I just remember pendlebury's number (10), dwyers (2), and then maxwells (5) and then kennedys (7). Has worked for me really well.

Going to try out the acronyms as well

Whoops sorry guys, I thought that I had put that in (face palm)
It's just The Ottawa Charter

Build healthy public policy
Create supportive environments
Strengthen community action
Develop personal skills
Reorient health services

Sport (and football) are good for acronyms!

No worries :)

Just remember that in the exam they will more than likely give you statistics.

And of course good luck!!!  ;D

I use the numbers of the collingwood

Not helping you anymore....

Hey Anchy

Our teacher said we have to.

Thanks.

Remember that
NGO's are effective in reaching the most marginalized and vulnerable whilst working separately from the national government.

So I'd say, NGO's help achieve the aim of multilateral aid which is reducing poverty and increasing sustainable human development.
Then provide a example how it would improve/achieve sustainable human devlopment
eg. Increases the access to health services to allow individuals to maintain a decent standard of living (health) which increases their opportunities to develop to their full potential, leading productive lives (human development) whilst allowing future generations to have the same or improved access to these services (sustainability).

hope I helped :)

Hi Bluegirl,

Let us first recall the definition of human development. Perhaps try writing it out from memory before revealing the spoiler (there's no time for revision like the present! ;)).

Spoiler
Human development refers to creating an environment in which people can reach their full potential, and lead productive and creative lives in accord with their needs and interests. It is about expanding people's choices and enhancing capabilities (the range of things that people can be and do); access to knowledge, health and a decent standard of living; and participating in life of their community, and decisions affecting lives.

In questions regarding x's impact on human development (in this case, obesity in developing countries), it's important to refer to aspects of the definition above. For example, for obesity, you could say something like (apologies for the very, very rough job - I'm sure you could do much better):

Spoiler
Obesity is likely to lead to a reduction in physical health, as the body and its systems will likely be less effective due to the increased amount of fat in the body, and one is less likely to be able to perform physical tasks as efficiently when obese. Reduced physical health (as a result of obesity) means that those in developing countries will be less likely to reach their full potential as, for example, they may have a reduced health-adjusted life expectancy and greater levels of morbidity. This may be due to the fact that obesity can lead to numerous non-communicable diseases and illnesses, such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and some kinds of cancer. This ill-health would result in limited choices and capabilities, and would render one less likely to actively participate in their community (due, for example, to greater difficulty in movement). Consequently, obesity in developing countries is likely to lead to reduced access to health and a decent standard of living. All of these factors contribute to a probable outcome of reduced human development in developing countries due to obesity.

It doesn't really matter which part(s) of the human definition you pull apart, so long as you refer to it and then justify why those aspects are relevant. Again, the above isn't a great response, but I hope it helped in regard to response structure, at least.

All the best.  :)

EDIT: And in hindsight, I would probably tailor it more specifically to developing countries, as opposed to developed countries.
