Can someone clarify when it says why is ________ a NHPA that this answers are sufficient :
Significantly contributes to the overalls burden of disease of Australians
Incur high direct , indirect and intangible costs

I find myself quite reluctant when writing this answer cause I feel like it's too broad

Ty in advanced

If you are concerned that your answers are too broad, there is no harm in being more specific.

If you say that the NHPA contributes to a large burden of disease for Australians, explain how or in what regard. You could talk about its impact on mortality/morbidity, or how that burden comes about ("obesity results in excess fat around the body, leading to a/b/c which results in d/e/f that impacts burden of disease").

If you say that the NHPA results in high (direct, indirect and intangible) costs, use examples ("obesity results in significant direct costs for the individual because g/h/i, and high intangible costs for the community because j/k/l").

Other things to consider when talking about why NHPAs have been chosen include trends, its being preventable, and impact on other areas of health (or other NHPAs).

With the MDGs report, can VCAA ask us to evaluate the progress of a goal using the report without giving us any stimulus material? I'm finding this really dry to learn

Does anyone know if we need to know a health promotion program for each type of cancer?

Or do we just have to choose one cancer to base our study on?

Thankyou for the clarification !!
wait so does that mean the broad answer would be acceptable?

Calcium- is a key mineral found in bones which helps contributes to bone mass to strengthen the bone. Thus, calcium helps to reduce the risk of osteoporosis as it increases bone density (?? enough for 2 marks? I didn't know whether to talk about calcium phosphate because then i would be repeating myself?)
Phosphate: Combines with calcium to make calcium phosphate which is a hardening agent for bones. Calcium phosphate ossifies bones to increase bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis
Vitamin D: allows the absorption of calcium phosphate from the small intestine into the bones to add bone mass and promote healthy bones, thus acting as a protective factor for osteoporosis

Yes of course that's enough.  one mark for correct nutrient another mark for correct function.
Calcium - Acts as a hardening or ossifying agent for hard tissue such as teeth, bones and cartilage.
Good job ;)

Identify and explain the 3 basic strategies of the Ottawa charter (6 marks)

Enable: ensure equal opportunities and resources are available to all people to achieve optimal health an reduce difference in health between different population groups.

Can I join in Lucas Vang and evawu? This looks fun!

The nutrition survey essentially provides a snapshot of what Australians or a specific targeted group are eating. One such example of data is what vegetables a specific community is eating, and in what quantity. The Government can utilize this information by comparing the nutrition intake to the Australian Dietary Guidelines, and check if they are meeting the recommendation.

Yes, this is open to all!

Explain a role of the UN and provide an example on how they have undertook in this role.
Providing humanitarian assistance to countries in times of crisis. The UN achieves this by raising billions of dollars from international donors and appeal to fund the humanitarian pursuit and co-coordinating response to various crisis through key humanitarian bodies such as UNICEF and World food program.

evaluate the progress made to MDG 3

i can't do this question :(

Why is MDG 7 important? (4 marks)
How does the achievement of this MDG influence SHD? (4 marks)

Describe the role of nutrition in addressing diabetes (? marks)

Yeah that's what I thought, I believe you'd get a case study or statistics/graph, then you can draw conclusion on the progress made because the dot point only says purpose and reasons why their important

yeah i remember my friend who got a 50 last year saying that you don't need to remember statistics for NHPAs, i suppose the same would apply to the MDGs

in the study design:
definitions of sustainability (including elements of appropriateness, affordability, equity) and human development (including the human development index) according to the UN
what are the definitions? apart from the '...meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs'
are there definitions for economic, social and environmental sustainability?
how about the elements? D:

Hey guys,

Just messaged my teacher and he said it isn't neccessary to learn stats. It was just for us in our SAC to separate the students because our cohort is pretty strong. But it's still really handy to know stats, helps you answer questiosn especially the MDG reason, purpose, and progress questions. Guess I'll just have that up my sleeve .. slight advantage

Good luck everyone!

Unit 3:
Describe the role of nutrition in addressing diabetes (? marks)

- polyunsaturated fats: these decrease the impact of impaired glucose regulation, thus assisting individuals to reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus
- fibre: High fibre foods tend to have a lower glyaecemic index, thus assisting in addressing diabetes by ensuring that insulin is released slowly from the pancreas.
- water: increases feelings of satiety. This may prevent overeating, which can help individuals maintain a healthy weight which is a protective factor for diabetes.

To be fair, you can't actually be asked about GI foods anymore
