Just wondering for Q4.b you've written pi/6 or -5pi/6

Does that mean only 1 is needed or was that a mistake?

both are needed, domain is from neg pi to pi, both would yield tan(x) = 1/root3....

except in vcaa '09, the last sub q was a killer, only like 3% of the state got it..
whereas today, the last q was very doable, similar triangles r nothing all that complex...

yeah, but at least linear approximation is explicitly on the study design.  similar triangles isn't

whilst they are not hard i agree, unless someone has taught them to you, how do they expect you to know this stuff.

it doesn't really come up in any textbooks...

What would happen if you had one but not the other.... no marks??
or just 1/2 for working tan(x)=1/sqt(3)

the one about pi/6 or -5pi/6, its because x can equal pi/6 OR -5pi/6
If it was time, it couldn't be both at the same time, or any other thing.
It's just a language issue, but you do need to include both values.

Similar triangles is assumed knowledge dating back to year 10... and if you used Essentials, there are questions with regards to similar triangles in the examples+exercises.

Truetears: It might be assumed knowledge, but my school barely even touched it. I think the last thing i did High School Geometry was like Year 8? (besides Specialist Maths geometry, thats different).

The fact that it wasn't in the study design was outrageous, i thought it was locked onto whats in it, not just 'assumed' knowledge as well, thats retarded. I could throw in a Probability question from Year 10 maths into Specialist and say its 'assumed' knowledge....doesn't work LOL
