She's been doing the same thing in the biomed cores :P I don't care if she answers questions but she's just so annoying about it lol. With my luck I'll draw her as a lab partner for techniques

Not having an exam is a prerequisite for me to choose a breadth...

Ugh yeah. A friend of mine told me how she saw her going off at Andrew for nothing. It was in the morning lecture, and a few lecture notes (from an irrelevant lecture) were up the front. As people came in they took them (not realising they weren't for Immunology). Anyway, that girl didn't end up getting one, and when Andrew came in she walked up to him and was all like 'IT'S NOT ACCEPTABLE YOU DIDN'T PRINT ENOUGH FOR US ALL!!!!!!'. Poor guy, he was so confused.

You get to pick your lab partners so.. On one hand she'll just answer everything and you can pawn off on her. But you'll have to bear with her for a semester so in the end it cancels out to your loss.

Haha, I'm the guy who sits front right in Micro with the really annoying group who never shut up.

I'm in Living Longer atm, I'm making a decision on whether or not to stay in it after the exams finish

Hm.. I have no idea. Although have you seen that girl who ALWAYS answers questions, whether it's right or wrong? GOD it makes the lectures drag out.

I'm thinking about doing "UNIB20013 Body, Mind and Medicine: A Dissection". Doesn't look too hard, and there's no exam (yes, I'm one of those people who pick breadth depending on whether there's an exam or not).
What about the forests subject ;D

Your average/WAM is irrelevant for medicine, all that matters is your GPA
First i'm hearing of this...well that is a game changer in a way... considering how GPA's relate to categories of marks.. 1% off from like 70 and your GPA could be way lower for a subject.. D:

It means you must be good at all the subjects you do because you cant really make up for a shit mark that easily.

I took business law as a  breadth and it was the worse mistake ever as it was extremely difficult to get high marks and Im just PRAYING for a H2B. It kind of sucks because the purpose of breadth subjects is for students to study and learn something that is out of the scope of their core subjects, and now that med hopefuls end up choosing super easy breadths just to get the H1.

Yeah, which is kinda disappointing but there are always going to be people playing the system. I didn't and took breadth that were interesting and I don't think it's been a major problem as far as GPA goes.

Once you get to uni, you realise that the VCE marking system was actually not that bad :P

Business law cannot be worse than Logic and info, the exam that is, the remaining 50% was relatively simple, need to at least pass the exam for a H2B

Im not sure what you mean by this, after all you subects are completed an weighted GPA is calculated, you would need more than 1% off a 1st year subject to throw the weighted GPA from 80 to 79%, 7 to 6.5..

Your WAM is literally irrelevant. You can have an 80% average and a 6.0 GPA. The only time you actually use your percentage mark is to work out what GPA mark corresponds to it which are then averaged indepdently. That means that if you get a 79 you get 6.5 and if you get 80 you get 7.0. So a 1% difference would be minimal in a WAM system but is a big deal in the GPA system

Obviously in GPA it affects ones scores more but 1% from a first year subject wont have such drastic effect but has the potential to if you're literally on the verge of 7/6.5,

It makes so much more sense to use %'s for GPA1+GPA2+GPA3 / 6, honestly I thought that that was the process :o

If you apply straight out of 3rd year, you'll only have GPA1/2 so it's a bigger amount.

And yeah, a first year subject is a small element of your GPA but the percentage amounts don't matter at all. You get 7, 6.5, 6.0 etc.

I meant inside one subject; 80 would get you a HD = 4 and 79 would get you D = 3. It may not sound that significant but its a much bigger hit you'd take if they were using the WAM.

Thats all im saying.

Med applications don't use that system (yes it's confusing) they use a 7 point scale.

Convert your percentage marks to GPA marks. Average the GPA marks. That's your GPA.

eg you have an 80, 76, 69 and 99

That's 7.0, 6.5, 5.5, 7.0

Average it out and you get 6.5 as your GPA
If you'd averaged the percentage marks you'd get 81, which is 7.0

That's why the GPA system is different
