Hey, how likely is it that they will specify a speech that just got introduced last year to the syllabus such as Lessing or Brookes?

Also, would a quote to Shakespeare in a drama be considered an intertextual reference, or a Shakespearean allusion?

A specified speech (new or old) is definitely a possibility, try and have just a few quotes from every speech so you are ready! ;D

Well, that example would be an intertextual allusion to Shakespeare, that's how I'd put it! :)

Just some last minute help with identifying quotes (that seems to be all I've asked about here haha), this one is from Julius Caesar for module A.

"But I am as constant and true as the northern star"
"But Brutus says he was ambitious, and Brutus is an honourable man"

Thanks!

First one is a great example of a simile! Especially powerful in the Roman context of the play, given astronomical influence and such.

Second one is a repetition of a phrase that appears everywhere in that piece of rhetoric; "Brutus is an honourable man," it's sarcasm too! ;D

A few module B questions I have looked at ask you to examine two "episode's" or "extract's". What does this actually mean? Can I focus on a whole section of the text or does it have to be one chapter? My text is Cloudstreet!

Hey Beth! Normally being asked to examine an extract involves examining a particular key section of your text. This could be a chapter, or the entire climax, or the entire conclusion, etc. You make that choice based on your text! :)

Hey Jamon! Is a conceptual paragraph necessary for a Module A essay if you are aiming for a band 6 response?

Anyone that does or has done yeats for module b - do you think it would be alright to just go in with two poems analysed? Because that's all I have right now.

Poetry AND speeches are the worst thing in this paper :P

CuttleFish, if you have time tonight, just remember a quote or two from your other poems, juuuuust in case they specify. It's unlikely but you never know, and you can always use your favourites WITH a prescription if they do :)

Hey Sanaz! Definitely not, I've seen great essays without it, but that said conceptual paragraphs normally make it easier to make comparisons in the Module, and avoid textual retell. Not a requirement, but what I'd recommend! :)

Thanks for the reply Jamon, I've been really nervous especially since my teacher read my essay and said a conceptual is a must have :( I rearranged it and now I can't remember it.

Is there a specific type of rhetoric that I need to reference to or just say rhetoric? -> This is just to frame the quote essentially

In the same was as it's better to say 'natural imagery' than 'imagery', it is certainly better to identify a specific branch of rhetoric than use the term in its broadest sense. However, it really isn't that damaging to an essay if you do without the specific application. At this stage, it just isn't something I would be worrying about!

Hey AN community,
Two questions:
1. When adapting an essay to the question, how would we go about doing this? Cause when I was doing the discovery one, I found it quite difficult to really nail the question (i.e. just threw the words emotional and intellectual whenever I could, especially in my linking after each paragraph).
2. Should the main/sub thesis be entirely about the question? Or just what we're about to talk about in each body paragraph in regards to certain concepts that relate to the question somewhat?

Hey dude, I personally think the most appropriate structure would be;
Prescribed Idea 1
Related Idea 1
Prescribed Idea 2
Related Idea 2

So basically A B A B - I guess if you don't have it would be okay if you could somehow manage to fit both your prescribed ideas into that one paragraph?
